Martin Ålund OTHERWORLD

With texts by Clara Diesen, Jonas Ellerström & Martin Ålund

The Bipolar Suite of 50 intense, large-format paintings are the result of a shamanistic praxis and an alchemical process.

From the publisher: The 50 paintings that form Martin Ålund's "The Bipolar Suite (Otherworld)" were created during a period of strong tension. They are the artistic result of a profound emotional experience that became a psychological and spiritual journey of discovery. Darkness and light stand against each other in large diptychs or are expressed in individual paintings that build a whole of great and striking power. Ålund's experience and technical skill lay a solid foundation for both the violent color outbursts and the meditative calm of the series. The poet Clara Diesen has written a suite of poems for this book that empathetically interprets and adds to the shifting moods of the Otherworld paintings. Martin Ålund himself has written a preface that provides biographical background, and the author and critic Jonas Ellerström has in an afterword analyzed the shamanistic and alchemical process which Ålund's paintings exemplify and are the result of.
